designs inspired by reimagining the classic silhouettes in indian history.
kora - the experience
'fashion acts as a living museum’ and ‘plays promiscuously with the past’ (dant, 1999 quoted by holroyd 2017), and ‘elements within the resource may return to favour time after time, renewed and layered with new meanings.’ (holroyd, 2017). inspired by this notion, my research explores an alternative zero-waste design practice by questioning the existing methodologies in clothes-making & garment construction by establishing connections to the past, and their influences through a series of narratives. these pieces focus on re-establishing relationships within clothing in a cultural and social context, constructed and bound with the element of time. the pieces displayed here build on a silhouette outline that has been long evidenced in the indian clothing archives.
clothing is ‘identity’ that sits between time and experience.
