roj - the experience
the group of friends sipping ‘chai’, keen bystanders watching cricket in the small ‘paan’ shops on the millenium old tv set, a grandfather browsing his newspaper quietly sitting on the ‘otlo’, kids playing ‘pagathiya’ – these experiences of the common regional lifestyle have been extremely intriguing to me since childhood, having lived in ahmedabad and often being a visitor to these experiences. i have always tried to connect these to the word ‘fashion’ as we might say. fashion for me has been these people, their way of doing things, wearing, living and adorning themselves with things we could never imagine of. fashion has been a lot more than in terms of words only associating to garments, trends, style and fancy; it is rather who these people i come across are with their own understanding of the sense.
it is here, where i started building a relationship with frames and moments with materials and silhouettes.
clothing exists in our 'everyday'.
